CHIP AND RANT. English, 'Old' Hornpipe (3/2 time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABBCC. The tune is contained in the 19th century Joseph Kershaw Manuscript. Kershaw was a fiddle player who lived in the remote area of Slackcote, Saddleworth, North West England, who compiled his manuscript from 1820 onwards, according to Jamie Knowles. A rant is a type of dance. Researcher Jean Duval notes the similarity between "Chip and Rant" and the Québec tune "Brandy (Le)."
