COCK AND THE HEN [3], THE. Irish, Slip Jig (9/8 time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABBCCDD. This four-part "Cock and the Hen [3]" is from the c. 1883 music manuscript collection of County Leitrim musician biography:Stephen Grier. Researchers Fr. John Quinn and Conor Ward find the tune related the tune family that includes "Cock and the Hen (1) (The)", "Doodley Doodley Dank" and "Leather You Rogue (The)." They also believe that Grier's tune may be a descriptive piece, with the 3rd and 4th strains imitating the sounds of the cock and hen, particularly when played on the uilleann pipes[1].
