CURLY HEADED PLOWBOY, THE. AKA and see "Ploughboy (1) (The)." English, Country Dance Tune (2/2 time); New England, Polka. G Major (Miller & Perron, Raven): D Major (Barnes, Sweet). Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The melody (as "Curly Headed Ploughboy") appears as a country dance in the music manuscript collection of Rossendale, East Lancashire, musician James Nuttall, compiled around 1830. As an air it was the vehicle for several songs in both Britain and Ireland, and the tune was later adapted for use as a polka for New England dances.
