GRIFFITH'S VALUATION. Irish, Slip Jig (9/8 time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. "Griffith's Valuation" is a slip jig found in Book 3 (No. 249) of the large c. 1883 music manuscript collection of County Leitrim piper and fiddler biography:Stephen Grier. The tune title honors the work of wikipedia:Sir_Richard_Griffith,_1st_Baronet (1784-1878), whose Primary Valuation was the first full-scale valuation of property in Ireland. It was published between 1847 and 1864 for the purpose of determining taxes. The volumes serve today as one of the most important surviving 19th century genealogical sources.
