The very popular old Cajun song expresses "grief at the unexpected death of a loved one...(it is) a much loved waltz (that) is an essential part of many Cajun musicians' repertoires" (Brown, 1983, p. 18). Raymond Francois (1990) relates that his father remembered the song being played at the time the Titanic sank, though the tune predated that disaster.
