The tune was entered into the large mid-19th century music manuscript collection of County Cork cleric and uilleann piper James Goodman as "Trip to the Garret" in a section of tunes attributed to piper Jackson. County Leitrim fiddler and piper Stephen Grier also entered the tune into his c. 1883 music manuscript collection with the title variant "Jackson's Kiss in the Garrett."
