The melody was entered into the 1840 music manuscript collection of multi-instrumentalist John Rook of Waverton, near Wigton, Cumbria, and, as an untitled jig, in Book 3 of the large c. 1883 music manuscript collection of County Leitrim fiddler and piper Stephen Grier (c. 1824-1894).
