The reel appears as "Lady Kennedy's Reel" in the mid-19th century music manuscripts of County Cork Church of Ireland cleric and uilleann piper biography:James Goodman, and as "Stafford Dance (The)" in Book 2 of the c. 1883 music manuscript collection of County Leitrim piper and fiddler biography:Stephen Grier (c. 1824-1894). In the 20th century Peter Kennedy collected the reel as "Midnight Frolic."
