MISS HAMILTON OF SUNDRUM. Scottish, Reel (cut time). A Minor. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. John Glen (1891) finds the earliest appearance of this tune in print in Ayrshire fiddler-composer biography:John Riddell's 1782 collection (p. 51). The daughter Lilias was also sister to Hugh Montgomery, the Earl of Eglinton. John French (1753-1803) composed a reel called "Sundrum House," and another for the lady of the house, Mrs. Hamilton (see "annotation:Mrs. Hamilton of Sundrum's (Junr.) Reel" for more).
