PIPE MAJOR WM. GRAY’S FAREWELL TO THE GLASGOW POLICE. Scottish, March (2/4 time). A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABBCCDD’. Composed by Pipe Major John MacDonald (1898–1988), South Uist, also known as Seonaidh Roidein. His tune honors Glasgow piper William "Willie" Gray (1883–1962), Pipe Major of the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders. He survived World War I and returned to the Glasgow Police where he was appointed Pipe Major and led the band to championships in the early 1920's. He retired from the Police and the band, naming John MacDonald as his successor.
