RIGADOON BY PHILPOT. English (?), Country Dance Tune (6/8 time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The title refers perhaps to Stephen Philpot, a musiciand and author who wrote An Introduction to playing on the violin on an entirely new plan (London, 1767) and Twelve capital lessons for the Harpsichord or Pianoforte (1784). There are several of his untitled Rigadoons (as well as Gavots and Minuets) in the first work.
