A version of the tune was entered into Book 3 of the c. 1883 music manuscript collection of County Leitrim fiddler and piper biography:Stephen Grier. O'Neill did not reproduce this, his first setting from Music of Ireland (1903), in his Dance Music of Ireland (1907).
