SKIP YON WATER WANTONLIE. Scottish. The melody appears in full in the Guthrie Manuscript. Guthrie was a covenenting minister beheaded in 1661 for publishing a seditious pamphlet; he was probably no lover of dance music, and it may be that some wag sewed the dance collection into the book of his sermons.
