SOLDIERS OF THE QUEEN. AKA - "Soldiers of the King." English, March (4/4 time). F Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). One part. "Soldiers of the Queen" is a march contained in the c. 1890 music manuscript of East Anglia musician George H. Watson. Watson's entry is the chorus of Leslie Stuart's popular 1890's march and song "Soldiers of the Queen", originally composed by Stuart as a march celebrating the opening of the Manchester Ship Canal. The lyrics were added at a later date and the title changed. The song was then interpolated in the musical comedy An Artist's Model (1895). Stuart's march is frequently heard in British military use.
