STEP HIGH WALTZ. American, Waltz (3/4 time). A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. "Step High Waltz" was recorded in 1928 by east Tennessee's Roane County Ramblers, a group nominally led by fiddler James "Jimmy" McCarroll (1892-1985) who had excellent technical skills on the instrument. Other members of the group included Luke (Luther Claude) Brandon (1901-1976) on guitar, (William) Howard Wyatt (1907-1961) on banjo, and John Kelley (1900-1985) on mandolin. The group performed but did not tour as they were loath to give up their day jobs.
