"Twist ye twine ye even so" was composed by Aberdeenshire fiddler-composer and dancing master wikipedia:James_Scott_ Skinner" (1843-1927), who identified it as a "A spinning wheel song." The title comes from a Sir Walter Scott piece in his Miscellaneous Poems.

Twist ye, twine ye; even so
Mingle shades of joy and woe—
Hoe and fear, and peace and strife,
In the thread of human life.
