BLACK TAR ON THE STICK. American. Library of Congress recording, 1938, Patrick Bonner; St. James, Beaver Island, Michigan. One suspects that the 'black tar' in the title was originally 'shit'. Bonner's repertoire was hugely influenced by the large number of Irish settlers on Beaver Island.
