Blue Skirt Waltz
BLUE SKIRT WALTZ. American, Air and Waltz. USA; Union County, Pa., north Mid-West. B Flat Major (verse) & E Flat Major (chorus). Standard tuning (fiddle). ABABCCAB. The tune, which was in the repertory of Dice, Pa., fiddler Ralph Sauers, was probably the "Blue Skirt Waltz" which became a regional hit for Ohio musician Frankie Yankovic in the northern Mid-West states where there was a large ethnic population. Yankovic remade a Bohemian tune called "Cerveny Satecek" (Red Handkerchief) into his piece that became a hit for him in 1948. The sheet music credits "The Blue Skirt Waltz" as copyright 1944 by R. A. Dvorsky, Prague, republished in 1948 and "containing new material by R.A. Dvorsky, Prague".
