B:Old-Lore Miscellany, vol. V (1912, p. 81)
N:The tune is from a manuscript collection [given A.W. Johnston] by
N:"the late" Mrs. Balfour, which had been in the possession of her
N:husband, the late Colonel David Balfour of Balfour and Trenaby.
N:The Ms. also contains "Day Dawn" and "Foula Reel"..."
N:Cecil Sharp thought the 2nd strain was reminiscent of the corresponding
N:strain of "Rakes of Mallow" (AKA "Sandy's lent the man his mill"),
N:allowing for the change in time.
