The tune was printed by Dr. Rimbault in his Leisure Hour (1876, p. 90), supposedly originally from John Walsh's (Jr.)Collection of Dances for the Year 1750. It is said to be the earliest appearance of the tune for the well-known "Yankee Doodle Dandy", of whose origins (words and music) there has been considerable speculation, conjecture and erroneous material in print in the past two centuries. Unfortunately, while there may be a Walsh edition of country dances for 1750, it has not been located, nor does "Kitty Fisher's Jig", "Fisher's Jig", or similar titles appear in the EASMES database.
