POLKA [11]. Irish (?), Polka (?). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. This untitled tune of unknown provenance was entered into Book 3 of the large c. 1883 music manuscript collection of County Leitrim fiddler and piper biography:Stephen Grier (c. 1824-1894). While it is here categorized as a polka, it may be a reel, country dance or a derivative strathspey. It is similar in the opening measures of each strain to "Paddy on the Handcar (1)", printed in Boston in Ryan's Mammoth Collection (1883), but there are also considerable melodic differences in the melodies making a cognate relationship questionable, although possible.
